Busy weekend!

Well, we were so busy this weekend that I forgot to take pics:(  Sorry!  I will definitely post a few tomorrow.

In other news, Eliza slept through the night for the first time in her life this past Saturday!  I guess she enjoyed the nonstop socializing!  Was this a fluke, or a taste of things to come?  Our fingers are crossed!

Have a great weekend:)

Time to read!

Eliza was fussy this afternoon, so I propped her up beside me on the couch and started reading picture books to her.  She was happily engaged for almost 45 minutes!  She made her English teacher mama so proud:)

She was especially captivated by The Tinderbox, a classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson.  The illustrations in this version are magnificent and kinda scary.  She loved it!

In this pic, she’s reading “That’s Not My Dolly.” Thanks for the book, Nana!

Blue-eyed girl.

Dark, grayish-blue to be specific.

Grandparents’ weekend.

We LOVE it when grandparents (and an awesome aunt) come to town!

Eliza giving Dane some love.

Hanging out with Papa.

And she’s enjoying her new jumper!  I hope so, anyway…it takes up 1/3 of our living room.

On Sunday, we met some friends at the Aquarium.  Eliza was moderately impressed with the Wild Flight Show.

Later that day, Granny and Pappy brought their new RV to a campsite in Port Aransas.  We had an excellent dinner at a at German restaurant called Marcel’s.

While we were at the restaurant, Eliza began to get cranky.  Finally, Jimmy figured out what she wanted:

The delicious, homemade bread made her SO HAPPY!  I get it–bread makes me happy, too:)

Two more from yesterday.

Sweet and sassy.

You’d think I’d learn by now…the cuter the outfit, the sassier the behavior.  Never fails!  And she still loves chewing on her fingers, as you can see!

No pics again today–I’m really slacking lately!  Probably because I’m pretty tired.

For the past week, Eliza has decided to begin her day at 6:00am sharp.  Way to go, Eliza!  This is a fine time to wake up!  So fine, in fact, that there is really no need to also wake up at 12:30am, 3:15am, and occasionally 4:45am.

Sometimes she’s hungry, sometimes she wants a pacifier, and sometimes she just wants to have a chat.  Add this to the fact that I stay up too late reading, and you have one tired momma!

But we’re hanging in there.  At least she’s decided to take longer daytime naps now!  Baby steps.

One of the blogs that I read (when I should be catching up on precious sleep) is called Momastery.  I love this mommy blog because the writer is very honest, optimistic, hilarious, and genuine.  She readily admits that she doesn’t have all of the answers to motherhood or life in general, but she insists that love is really all you need.  I tend to agree:)

The link below will take you to one of her most famous posts.  Several of my friends shared this post on Facebook, which is how I initially discovered the blog.  I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!

Relaxing weekends are the best weekends.

This weekend was a nice change of pace.  Yesterday, Jimmy hung out with Eliza while I shopped at Michael’s for two hours.  It was such a luxury.  I enjoyed every single minute of it.  I purchased a single pack of card stock, and that was it.  Awesome.

Since I’m feeling tired and relaxed and my brain is kind of mushy right now, I’ll share one of my favorite videos that’s been circulating around Facebook lately.  Do you guys remember the film Tootsie?  I used to watch it on repeat when I was little…I thought it was hilarious.  This recent interview with Dustin Hoffman, however, has completely altered my perception of the film.

For those of you who haven’t seen the movie (you should!), Tootsie is an 80’s comedy about an out-of-work actor who is desperate to find a role.  When he hears of a female role opening up on a daytime soap, he dresses up like a woman, auditions, and gets the part.  Hilarity ensues, as you can imagine.

Now watch this:

That was never a comedy for me.

Wow, that really gets me.
