Eliza has made laugh sounds for some time, but it’s typically an old man grunt followed by a smile. Today, she unleashed her very first full-bellied laugh followed by a cackle, which was hands-down the most delightful sound I’ve ever heard.
I’ve been trying so hard to elicit this laugh, and I’ve made every goofy face/sound imaginable in an effort to achieve it. So what finally made her laugh? When I used the nasal aspirator aka booger sucker. I guess it tickled her little nose!
Her laugh was even more wonderful because it took me completely by surprise:)
Every morning around 6:30, Eliza decides it’s time to begin her day. She lies in her crib and babbles to herself until I join her in the nursery. When she sees me, she laughs and grins from ear to ear. It’s the sweetest thing in the world, and it almost makes me forget her less benevolent wakeup call three hours prior. I want to remember these moments when she’s a teenager and I have to beg her to wake up until she throws a pillow at me.
I’m too foggy to grab my camera during these morning moments, but here she is awaking from a nap. Still pretty sweet:)
I’ve been under the weather for the past couple days, so I haven’t been on the ball with Eliza pics. She has, however, achieved a significant milestone. She’s always hated tummy time, and she usually gets cranky if she’s on her tummy for more than a minute or two. Yesterday, being fed up with tummy time as usual, she simply grunted, hoisted herself up, and rolled over! Once she was on her back, she was as happy as a clam:)
Today, she promptly rolled over each time I placed her on her tummy. She rolls to her left and right, and she’ll probably teach herself to summersault if it helps her avoid tummy time.
In other news, we’ve begun a backyard beautification project! We have a good-sized yard, but there’s not much out there aside from a rusty shed and a small slab of concrete. We’re currently having a pergola constructed, and it’s looking pretty awesome. Can’t wait to post pictures of the finished product!
Here’s a before pic:
I’m still a bit tired from the incredibly fun wedding weekend, so I’ll be posting pics tomorrow. Stay tuned!
Yesterday I mentioned how much I love Call the Midwife, a British show currently airing on PBS. Set in the 1950s, the show follows a group of nuns and midwives as they assist working-class families in London’s East End. It’s a fascinating peek into a world before epidurals, ultrasounds, and routine inductions and c-sections. What makes the show outstanding, however, are the characters and their stories. It’s a nice mixture of seriousness and lightheartedness, and I cry tears of happiness or despair by the end of every single episode. I daresay it will pack an emotional punch regardless of whether you’ve given birth or not. Check it out! And then call me straightaway so we can discuss it:)
The first season is available on Netflix, and the second season can be viewed for free on the PBS website.
And here’s another pic from Mother’s Day weekend. This is right before Eliza’s usual bedtime, so she’s looking quite sleepy.
